POSITION SUMMARY

The Simons Foundation is currently recruiting a Financial Accountant to join the accounting and reporting team. The Financial Accountant will be responsible for supporting the full accounting cycle and related reporting needs.

The Financial Accountant will report to the Finance Manager, Accounting, and will work in our New York office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain and analyze the general ledger accounting records and support the monthly and year-end close.
  • Perform recurring accounting work including journal entries and reconciliations related to cash and unrecorded cash transactions, fixed asset accounting, grants accounting, and investment accounting support. Assist with expense account analysis and account reclassifications.
  • Validate automated or integrated journal entries against control totals. Coordinate with the appropriate system administrators to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of core Procurement and Accounts Payable processes, particularly purchase requisitioning, invoice processing, and T&E expense report processing. Provide additional processing support in these areas as transaction volume or team coverage needs dictate.
  • Support the monthly close, including assigned close tasks, reconciliations, and related documentation. Ensure all work is properly documented and supported in the Foundation's close management software.
  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages. Prepare assigned financial reports and schedules, and compile reports, analyses, and commentary into presentation-ready meeting materials.
  • Prepare additional accounting analyses and schedules as needed for special projects, tax or regulatory needs, audit support, and other requests.
  • Understand workflows between teams, coordinate follow-ups with other teams as appropriate, and assist in ongoing efforts to improve processes and make operations more efficient.
  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business preferred. Other degrees will be considered based on level of relevant experience.


Experience
  • Minimum three years of public accounting or relevant industry experience required
  • Must have technical and computational accounting skills as well as an understanding of US GAAP and applicable industry standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with NetSuite is a plus.
  • Familiarity with IRS regulations with respect to exempt organizations, particularly private foundations, is a plus.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • The full-time annual compensation range for this position is $85,000 - $92,000, depending on experience.
