Automation & Robotics Instructor
Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946, and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors. Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered.
JOB DUTIES:
Maintain and monitor lab area for daily instructional activities including equipment setup
Prepare for and instruct established and approved curriculum and lesson plans to students in a professional manner
Must possess ability to prepare/adjust curriculum and training content to relate to various audiences
Review and discuss syllabi requirements at the start of each term with students
Answer all student questions as they arise to ensure student understanding and completion of material for Industrial Maintenance
Ensure students are aware of safety policies and monitor for correct procedures
Maintain professionalism within the classroom and coach students on their professionalism
Manage all classroom activity including lecturing, student assistance, and lab instruction
Ensure students are attending lab and online coursework
Resolve attendance issues as needed
Monitor student grades, and all student interactions in student files and on database in a timely manner
Advise students on issues affecting their education and provide guidance as needed
May be required to perform other duties as assigned
KSAs/Required Qualifications
Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in teaching field
2 years of related occupational experience
Experience with process control engineering and information technology
Experience with Fanuc and Yaskawa robots
Computer programming/coding and/or language experience in the following:
o MS Office with Automation (VBA)
o ODBC database configuration and maintenance
o ODBC query design
o Visual Basic
o Visual Basic for Applications
o C, C++, & C#
o Java
o Python
o Scratch
o Sketch
o ASP and Java Web Services.
Ability to integrate disparate automated systems
Strong mathematical and computational skills
Willingness to learn concepts, equipment and software as it relates to the courses and programs
Experience with using a variety of test equipment
Willingness to develop and build industry relationships
Commitment to the Community College mission
Excellent Microsoft Office skills
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time-management skills
Ability to utilize campus resources including software and college learning management systems
Ability to exercise discretion and use sound judgement in decision making
Skilled in written and oral communication
Skilled in monitoring, mentoring, and evaluating
Skilled in developing, implementing, and communicating college policies and procedures
Skilled in problem-solving and working effectively with administration, faculty, staff and students
Ability and willingness to market the program to potential students of all ages and backgrounds
Commitment to teaching excellence with an enthusiasm for teaching
Ability to use technology to enhance instruction.
Ability to effectively teach in classrooms and labs.
