Orthopedic Technician II, Shock Trauma Outpatient Clinic
Job Requirements

The Shock Trauma Outpatient Pavilion (STOP) at the University of Maryland Medical Center is a specialized, multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to providing comprehensive follow-up care for trauma patients recovering from acute injury. Located within the renowned R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, STOP supports continuity of care across trauma, neurosurgery, wound care, reconstructive surgery, and acute care emergency surgery services, ensuring patients receive coordinated, patient-centered treatment after discharge. The pavilion was designed to streamline recovery by bringing multiple specialties into one location, with the capacity to serve an estimated 15,000 patients annually and featuring integrated exam rooms, treatment spaces, and advanced care coordination resources. As part of a leading academic medical center that sees more than 284,000 outpatient visits each year, STOP plays a critical role in improving long-term outcomes, reducing complications, and supporting patients through every stage of trauma recovery.

General Summary


Under general supervision, assist physicians during examination of orthopedic patients and assist in maintaining orthopedic equipment and supplies.Fulfillment of the job duties requires the employee to have access to medication storage areas.



Work Experience

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.

  • Certification as a Registered Orthopedic Technologist is required.

  • 3 years of related experience is required.

  • Completion of a training course in orthopedic technology plus one year of internship in orthopedics, or two and a half years experience as an aide in a medical facility, including two years experience assisting in orthopedics is required.

Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.

  1. Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
  2. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
  3. Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
